Based on the six people from Chelten Avenue we communicated with, each platforms were created.
The library platform: Through the push and pull approach, the vacant storey building just beside library will be pushed back creating an outdoor reading space for the library which would be open to the community.
The transit area platform: the bus stop located at the northeast corner of Greene street and Chelten Avenue has been identified to be one of the busiest bus stops in the district. However, the bus stop has limited seating areas and no sheltered areas for pedestrians waiting for the bus. This platform provides proposes a new bus stop station with more sheltered seating areas for people waiting for the bus.
The community pool platform: This platform opens up the indoor swimming pool located at the Northwest intersection of Chelten and Wayne Avenue. The proposed idea is an extension of the building that accommodates activities that promotes the health and well-being of the people in the community and highlights the indoor swimming pool in the area.
Outdoor Market Platform: This platform is an opportunity for small businesses in the area and for fresh foods to be sold in the district. It allows activities going on in the existing market to be spilled into the street.
Community park Platform: This platform provides a viewing center and a summer camp base for the martial arts school just across the street which is owned by one of Chelten avenue’s local heroes – Guru Mohammed. When not in use by the martial arts school, the park is opened to all. Our scheme also provides an education center in the park hosting community workshops, seminars, meetings, job fairs and training.
Outdoor Play area: This proposal is to become Chelten Avenue’s major play area for the children of the community. This platform incorporates a Pavilion which serves as an architectural statement for the avenue. This unconventional structure will also assist in way-finding as the Pavilion is pushed forward spilling into the street making it more noticeable to Pedestrians.
