The workshop was held in New Wortley Community Center (N.W.C.C) with Architecture and Graphic design students and key collaborators of the design projects – New Wortley Gateway and Create Sculpt and Play.
To kick start the New Wortley project for the year which is proposing an urban intervention for the community of New Wortley just as was don’t in the Philadelphia project as well as a proposal for the Create Sculpt and Play for Leeds Art Gallery yearly pop up project which would have a second and permanent life in New Wortley as part of an urban intervention (in my case for the children of the community)
The Workshop started with the C.E.O of NWCC, Andrea who educating all on the issues in New Wortley and how the community center provides ways to help the people facing different issues to the best of their ability.
John of DLA Architecture – he spoke on various cultural pop ups and how they translate to tactical urbanism in a community. Though temporary, it has its ways of transforming a community. These interventions introduces creativity and liveliness in the area which aids development.
Dr Anne - who spoke on design process and design thinking( which she explained can be divergent, consisting of general possibilities or convergent, making specific decisions)
Her session had a class activity on brain storming and effective it can be in design process.
These sessions helped me gain new skills on how to approach this new design as well as a general direction or idea for the New Wortley project which is an intervention for the children of New Wortley.
